Kaizen
Kaizen is a 7 step structured approach
and is made of two Japanese words:-

For Example:-
How much time do you waste everyday in
looking for a pen or pencil in kept in your drawer?
Or
How much time do you lose in finding a
file which is not kept at its place?
Or
How long do you have to stand in a queue
when buying a railway ticket?
In the last example, the activity is
buying the ticket. The Value Adding part is only the instance when your
hand is inside the ticket window. All the time that you spent standing in
the queue was Non Value Adding. If there wouldn’t have been any queue, you
could have bought your ticket in minimum time possible.
Any step in process is defined as Value
Adding if it meets any one of the following criteria:-
1.
If the Customer is willing to pay for it
2.
If the step changes the physical form or function of the product
3.
If the product is first time right
All other activities are Non Value
Adding. Non Value Adding can also be divided in two groups:-
1.
Value Enablers or Regulatory requirements
2.
Wastes
Kaizen focuses on elimination the above
mentioned Wastes using a seven step process.
